Justin Smith grew up in New York City (see an autobiographical roman à clef) and attended the Bronx High School of Science and Hunter College.

After earning his Ph. D. in Mathematics from New York University, he held teaching and research positions at Rice University, the University of Hawaii, and Binghamton University, before becoming a professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Drexel University.

He retired from Drexel in 2016 and is now a Professor Emeritus.

After forty-nine years of marriage and a lengthy illness, his beloved wife, Brigitte, passed away on May 19, 2023 … all those moments … lost in time … like tears in the rain. See my parting thoughts.

Justin Smith currently lives in a suburb of Philadelphia.
